This collection of society records is primarily the file of H.I. Hester, who served as Secretary-Tresurer of the Society during its formative years. The collection includes correspondence related to society meetings and business. Significant correspondents include: William Owen Carver, James B. Chapman, E.C. Routh, and Leo T. Christmas. Also includes in the files are early minutes of the Society and the Committee on Baptist History of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Southern Baptist pastor, seminary professor, writer, and founder of the Southern Baptist Historical Society. Carver served as pastor to churches in Tennessee and Kentucky before his appointment to professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in 1898.
